Rutgers University, founded in 1766, has played a vital role in shaping the history of New Jersey and the nation. With roots grounded in tradition and a legacy of academic excellence, Rutgers has evolved over the centuries into a dynamic and diverse public research university.

But the heartbeat of Rutgers has always been its students.

Beyond the classroom, generations of Scarlet Knights have forged community, sparked change, and brought campus to life—through clubs, traditions, rallies, performances, and everyday moments that define the Rutgers experience. The Student Life Gallery honors these stories, weaving together past and present to showcase the vibrant culture and spirit that continue to shape the university’s future.
